BEHIND THE SCENES WITH BOBBY HUNDREDS FOR FALL 2012 LINE PHOTOSHOOT

When the 2012 Fall lookbooks dropped, streetwear fanatics looked toward Supreme’s lineup as one of the most important of street fashion’s contributions this year. The Hundreds produced a line that is just as impressive and even more immersive, with their post-apocalyptic photoshoot tying in man and beast to a compelling series of pieces with camo and Native prints with washed-out, distressed, and soft-edged details. A look behind the scenes comes alongside an interview with Bobby Hundreds about the new clothes which you can order now on The Hundreds’ online store.

LEBRON JAMES DEBUTS LEBRON X

While we already knew what the LeBron X looks like, the shoe had not yet been officially debuted until Sunday, when the reigning MVP marched onto the court for what would mark his second gold medal wearing a U.S. flag-themed version of the sneaker. No news yet as to whether this will be the model we see hit stores when the shoes drop, but we can certainly count on this being one of the more coveted to start. The Zoom Max cushioning and Hyperfuse construction will make for Olympian performance, as well. More info on the LeBron X here as it arises.

NIKE SHOESHINE PROJECT 2012 - THE AIR REACTOR POWERED BY INSTALLITE

After posting Osamu Koyama’s majestic winged Nike boots yesterday, I thought it best to highlight some of the other innovative work to come out of Nike’s Shoeshine Project. This year the team of artists were more along the installation artist lines, while past Projects have had various sneaker artist types involved. EmmanueLabor describes the show as follows:

ShoeShine is a bi-annual event held in Denver. The winter show usually coincides with Winter X Games and is sponsored by Nike Snowboarding. The last one I participated in… they provided the boots and a brief of the theme, and give me a deadline and let me cook.

The video above shows two artists coming together, combining styles to create a futuristic sneaker design called the AIR REACTOR, powered by Installite. The end result is highly impressive and comparable to some of the other amazing work to come out of the show.

NIKE SHOESHINE PROJECT 2012 - AMERICAN EAGLE BY OSAMU KOYAMA

Having incorporated artists from all over the globe, including custom sneaker OG EmmanueLabor, Nike’s Shoeshine Project has become a staple in shoe customization each year. Somehow the work seems to get more impressive each year, and 2012 gave way to the best work yet. Filmmaker Ronin spent nine days with jeweler Osamu Koyama as he built this glorious gold-plated, winged Nike boot upon the white Nike Zoom Force 1 that serves as the canvas. This seven-minute video shows the artist’s process and certainly stands out as one of the most masterful custom sneaker creations of all time.

CONVERSE JACK PURCELL BOAT

The Jack Purcell boat shoe released by Converse is everything that a boat shoe is about. It’s cheap, stylish, and maintains subtle tones in a casual makeup of predominately canvas material. The shoe features bronze eyelets and a vulcanized sole, with rope laces that wrap around the outside of the shoe for some extra Summer flair. You can pick the shoes up now at Mr. Porter for just $80.

A BATHING APE X ANDY WARHOL X MEDICOM TOY 2012 CAMO BANANA

While Pop artists of our time such as Koons, Hirst, Fairey, and the ominous figure Banksy may have perfected the idea, it took a lifetime of criticism for Andy Warhol to introduce the concept of artist as “brand” to the high art world. Certainly artists like Shep are benefiting from the groundwork with highly successful clothing lines borrowing from their work on the walls of the world’s museums, while Warhol is either dancing on golden paved streets or rolling in his grave as he witnesses his name live on in continually varying forms.

Japanese streetwear company A Bathing Ape has teamed up with Warhol and Medicom Toy to create a plush body pillow featuring the artist’s famous banana. The yellow and black outside of the pillow opens to reveal a BAPE camo pillow inside. The pillow comes in three sizes and camouflage colors - pink, green, and blue - and is available now for Kyoto BAPEXCLUSIVE pre-sale, officially launching on June 9.

NAS - “DAUGHTERS”

Before dropping a music video that only a big city kingpin could pull off, Queensbridge native Nas has put out a new single from his upcoming Life is Good album, which comes out July 17th. Produced by No I.D., the message of the song rings true as Nasir speaks on the way mothers love their sons comparing to fathers loving their daughters, and even lets listeners into some intimate moments such as when he found a picture his daughter had posted on Instagram of a box of condoms.

BROOKLYN NETS “HELLO BROOKLYN”

The New Jersey Nets are packing their bags and moving to Brooklyn. Jay-Z will be happy that the trip from his often-courtside appearances back home will be much shorter now that the team over which he holds a minority ownership has moved to the town that made him a superstar, and the video released shortly after the logo redesign press release shows the desire to make a slew of changes.

Playing on history and the feeling of progression natural to the BK, the video shows the new logo in play for the first time, and teases the uniform unveiling that should happen in September of 2012.
