IMME VAN DER HAAK: BEYOND THE BODY
For artist Imme van der Haak’s project titled Beyond the Body, the Dutch student of London’s Royal Academy of Art created a series of silk sheets painted with the bodies of contrasting people, made to be worn by those who might find a new perspective in the skin of another. Juxtapoz reports:
photos of the human body are printed onto translucent silk which will create the possibility of physically layering different body’s, ages, generations and identities.
The video depicts a pair of startling creations made up of familiar anatomical identities that confuse each other in their interaction. The age factor is most jarring, and van der Haak has this to say:
The movement then brings this to life. Beyond the body brings into being an ambiguous image that intrigues, astonishes or sometimes even disturbs.
DUTCH ARTISTS FLOOD TUMBLR’S “NEW AND NOTABLES” PAGE
From time to time, ASCK will pay homage to one of the most influential parts of the world’s art history by highlighting Dutch artists, designers, and filmmakers. The work was done for us this week by Tumblr’s Tumblr Tuesday: Nteherlands Edition. Featuring work by dyslexic artist Gaby Zwaan who creates abstracted pop pieces obsessed with trends and fashion culture, a post-Mondrian appeal is seen in his work.

PARRA X KIDROBOT “PIERCED” FIGURE
After creating a silkscreen print based on the drama wrapped up in romance novel cover art featuring his signature sexy bird people, Dutch artist Parra has teamed up with Kidrobot to produce shiny and lustful figures of the image. Limited to 300, the pieces release June 7th and feature the artist’s name carved into the bottom. At 10 inches high, the two figures wrapped up in one another in both violence and in love, the limited edition toy named Pierced carries a price tag of $150.

BIG FUN IN THE BIG TOWN - HIP HOP DOCUMENTARY 25 YEARS IN THE MAKING
Big Fun in the Big Town is an interesting film. When the documentary’s production started in 1986, Run-DMC was just starting to make a name for themselves LL Cool J was the new kid on the block, still living with grandma. When filming started, parts of New York City were still finding out about a fresh new artistic movement. Now, more than 25 years later, this same art form has been called dead at various junctures, and the film is finally getting an official release after decades on the shelf. Raw footage of Russell Simmons, Grandmaster Flash, Doug E. Fresh, and more shows a movement being sculpted, and Dutch documentary director superstar and hip-hop aficionado Bram Van Splunteren shot and compiled it. PARRA - “WEIRDED OUT” MURAL TIME LAPSE VIDEO FROM SFMOMA
The mural at “Weirded Out” by Dutch artist Parra fills a huge wall in the SFMoMA with the artist’s signature sexy bird women.
