NIKE ZOOM ROOKIE “GALAXY” OFFICIAL RELEASE DATE

With the original release date slated for this coming Saturday, the Nike Zoom Rookie “Galaxy” was one of the most hyped releases for the end of 2012. While it remains so, fiends will still have to wait a couple more weeks to get the shoes, as the drop date has been pushed back to October 19th. The coveted and much-replicated Galaxy pattern covers the heel around to the toe of the shoe, with black nubuck and pods breaking it up.

At $215, the sneakers follow the recent trend of breaking the two bills cap that held sneakers to a more manageable price for the last generation, but there is little doubt that the model will still sell out.

ULTIMATE NIKE MCFLY LOT HITS EBAY FOR OVER $18K
Large sneaker lots are one of the most beautiful things that eBay has introduced to the streetwear game. These two worlds collide as sneaker and Back to the Future collector eliteamericanwholesale puts together this $18,500 lot for every Nike McFly piece you could ever want.

Of course the Air MAGs are included, but the lot also features the 2008 Nike Hyperdunk McFlys, 2009 Nike Hypermax McFly NFWs, the limited-to-twelve-pieces 2010 Nike Hyperdunk sample, and the pretty much impossible to get ‘It’s About Time’ tee that Tinker Hatfield wore in Nike’s Air Mag 2015. If that wasn’t enough, also featured are replicas of the Matel Hoverboard and Nike bazooka bag carried by the Doc in Back to the Future 2. If you have 18 g’s to spare, head to the eBay auction here.

NIKE AIR FORCE 180 “THE ADMIRAL” CUSTOM BY REVIVE CUSTOMS

Sometimes a custom job serves no better purpose than to repurpose an OG sneaker that has lost its luster, but sometimes a beaten-up base can serve as the inspiration for something beautiful. Perhaps drawing courage from the fact that the sneakers were all but destroyed to start, long-time sneaker customizer Revive Customs took an old pair of Nike Air Force 180 highs and transferred a theme reminiscent of the Air Jordan VI “Olympic” sneakers with inspiration from teammate David “The Admiral” Robinson. The shoes come out looking like they should be sold in a pack with the AJ6, and in photographs looks almost brand new. Restoration jobs don’t come better than this.

CUSTOM NIKE MAG BY MACHE CUSTOMS
One of the ways that customizer headrunner Dan Gamache makes headlines is by altering base shoes that are deemed untouchable by many. It’s a clever and bold approach. His recent attempt at the most coveted shoe of last year - and a silhouette that is still one of the hardest to find in all of streetwear - is the Nike MAG 2011 for the Michael J. Fox fundraising auction put on by Nike and eBay. Well, Mache did what Mache does, and altered the shoe into a custom that will sit proudly in his portfolio forever more. It’s not a heavy alteration, but that’s not the point with a base this rare.
The artist has brought custom sneakers to the forefront, and recently spoke with Nicekicks on the topic in a great interview detailing a huge shift in the public reception of the art.

SOCIAL STATUS X MAX100 X NIKE AIR MAX 1 LIMITED RUN

For 25 years the Air Max 1 has been inspiring Nike fans and filling their closets with colorway after colorway. On September 15th one of the more compelling adventures in the life of Tinker Hatfield’s accomplished sneaker model takes place, involving Matt Stevens’ inspired MAX100 Project which took the artists’ passion for “the greatest sneaker of all time” and turned it into a book of the most interesting footwear-inspired drawings we have seen. Now Nike has teamed up with Stevens to produce a few of the shoes as referenced in the drawings from the book.

On September 15th, Social Status of Charlotte, North Carolina will host ten one-of-a-kind pairs of Nike Air Max 1 sneakers to be auctioned off to benefit local charities. Each pair will also come in a numbered, wooden box.

NIKE AIR MAX HYPERPOSITE “STATUE OF LIBERTY”

Displayed last Sunday at the finals of the “Battle of the Boroughs” at Rivington Court in New York City, the newest Hyperposite colorway lives up to its “Statue of Liberty” moniker well with a fresh mint base and metallic copper cracked all throughout the upper. The tongue branding and swoosh are also made up of this copper color, giving a feeling of Lady Liberty to the makeup. The shoes drop in November, and also feature a stencil-style portrait of New York’s shining beacon on the insoles.

NIKE AIR TRAINER 1 PREMIUM “BB51”

After recently released pics of this pair’s vice versa, the Nike Air Trainer 1 Premium “BB51” was previewed recently in a black/khaki colorway. The upper has a rather luxurious feel to it with black leather, and brown stripes and khaki accents give sparse visual texture throughout. The BB51 collection does not yet have a release date, but you can expect to see more info here soon.

WHAT THE SEKURE D DUNK LOWS AND THE CURRENT MARKET OF CUSTOM SNEAKERS

Sneaker customizer, Australian, G-Shock rep, and Custom Sneaker Forum founder Sekure D created a style all of his own years back when he began his work in custom shoes. The game is a much different place nowadays, and many custom sneaker designers and artists have abandoned the art form they once so loved to make way for hype beasts and trend riders.

Custom sneakers have turned into a formula that involves taking a hyped shoe and a hyped pattern and combining them into the most sellable format possible. People make money, but the art is all but lost. While some still create original works of art and inspiration can still be found in the same places if you know how to dig, the majority of what is seen is nothing but color flips.

Sekure’s “What the Sekure D” pair - which dropped some months ago - takes the “flip” and flips it. The artist creates a pair of originally flipped custom sneakers, which are all but extinct in the current market. The pair features multiple original patterns from Sekure’s catalog; check out what he has to say below and more of his writing in the post:

If you were new to the scene you would swear looking at blogs that all anyone does when customizing sneakers is take pre existing colorways and patterns and repaint them onto a basketball shoe, imaginative right? I do not hate on peoples hustle or ability to flip this kind of work for large stacks but it’s disappointing to see this kind of work become the pinnacle of our field and be the only type rewarded by some of the major sneaker sites. Don’t we live in a scene that rewards originality anymore?

I begun customizing sneakers because I wanted shoes nobody else had, seeing people like Emmanuelabor, SBTG, bLue and 1OF push the boundaries of what a creative mind could do with a pair of sneakers made me decide to pursue my passion for a living and put off using my University Degrees. Seeing what we call custom sneakers today I sit back and wonder if I would still do the same thing if I was today finishing University, I am sure the answer is no.

PARANORMAN X NIKE FOAMPOSITE EXCLUSIVE GIVEAWAY

The Nike Foamposite is the shoe of the year, and collaborative sneaker releases have always been a huge selling point for compelling sneaker designs. An even better selling point is when a release comes with no actual sales; the only way to get the Paranorman Nike Foamposite - with integrated design, glow in the dark soles, and branded detailing on the heel tabs incorporating imagery from the movie - is to win one of just 800 pairs through Nike’s giveaway here.

The campaign involves tweeting @Paranorman one of the weirdest photos your parents ever took of you. Good luck beating mine with the mullet-perm combo in bright blue sailor overalls.
