BOBBY HUNDREDS ON BEGINNINGS WITH MTV

ASCK is back from a crazy break that took up blog-writing time, but there’s been some cool happenings in the meantime to blog about over the next couple weeks, so you can expect some great inspiration in street culture. One source of constant inspiration - and story we’ve shared before - is that of Bobby Hundreds. I recently ran across The Hundreds’ spot in MTV’s GYT campaign, and I was even more impressed this time around. The Hundreds is proof that with a ton of passion and even more hard work, you can build your own empire. In fact, every story in the GYT campaign is equally inspiring, and made for a good cause. SCREEN RESOLUTION - BOBBY HUNDREDS DETAILS HIS BRAND’S ROUGH BEGINNINGS

There are people out there who can help you, but no one can give you adversity. That’s something that you have to discover on your own. In a beautiful story by one of streetwear’s most iconic and respectable figures, Bobby Hundreds details the process full of frustration that brought him to the place of printing for some of his most intense competitors at a screen printing shop that he now owns, due only to his success through every trial.

They laughed. This time out loud.  ”Guys, do you know how many kids come in here trying to start a t-shirt line?  We don’t have the charity for that.  Do you know what ‘minimums’ are? We do million-t-shirt orders for the State of California. We don’t have the time to separate your artwork, burn the screens, and run the machines for 100 t-shirts. Go somewhere else.”

REEBOK PRESENTS “CLASSIC” BY JONATHAN MANNION LOS ANGELES VIDEO RECAP

Hip hop photographer Jonathan Mannion took his huge show “CLASSIC” from Art Basel in Miami to the Rosewood neighborhood in LA recently, and for two days the Reebok-sponsored event displayed over 50 works throughout 15,000 square feet at Milk Studios.

The show gave a history of hip hop and one of its most respected documenters as Mannion’s work was viewed by everyone from DJ Quik and Big Daddy Kane - who performed one night to a packed gallery - to Swizz Beats and others. The ASCK crew was there to take pictures, but a feeling for the show can’t be garnered by those who missed it without checking out this pretty well-done video recap.

THE HUNDREDS X NEW ERA “THIS IS RSWD” VIDEO

For the month of February, The Hundreds will be opening a RSWD pop-up shop alongside New Era, and the company took the time to ask everyone from Kreayshawn to those who frequent the store to share their favorite moments of the last five years.

Rosewood is an important part of street culture, and the many streetwear shops in the area speak volumes to its influence.
