BOBBY HUNDREDS ON BEGINNINGS WITH MTV

ASCK is back from a crazy break that took up blog-writing time, but there’s been some cool happenings in the meantime to blog about over the next couple weeks, so you can expect some great inspiration in street culture. One source of constant inspiration - and story we’ve shared before - is that of Bobby Hundreds. I recently ran across The Hundreds’ spot in MTV’s GYT campaign, and I was even more impressed this time around. The Hundreds is proof that with a ton of passion and even more hard work, you can build your own empire. In fact, every story in the GYT campaign is equally inspiring, and made for a good cause. When MOCA’s Art in the Streets exhibit was in full swing, LA graffiti writer REVOK was sentenced to a much-hyped 180 days in jail for violating probation on previous vandalism charges. One can understand why an artist in one of the most talked-about art exhibitions in recent years would have gripes about the police. In this at-times-dramatized and at-others-endearing interview, The Hundreds asks REVOK to share some stories from his crazy career as one of the world’s foremost writers.

THE HUNDREDS X THESEVENTHLETTER PREVIEW - SABER INTERVIEW

The human side of Los Angeles-based graffiti writer Saber is one that he often tries to submerge in his dark and foreboding visuals, while ironically being a major focus in his career full of fights for human rights that should only increase with the birth of his first daughter. The street art collective that he helped create, TheSeventhLetter, is teaming up with innovative street art label and also Los Angeles-based The Hundreds for a collaboration slated to release this June.

A video with Saber’s charismatically pessimistic humor, a dark and grimy studio to match, and commentary on the human condition previews a t-shirt collaboration 22 years in the making through political and cultural transgressions in the city and the world. More details should be available soon.

THE HUNDREDS SANTA MONICA ONE YEAR ANNIVERSARY RECAP VIDEO

Remember when I was upset that I missed Sneaker Con a while back? Well similar feelings are bubbling up inside me after hearing about the craziness of the one year anniversary at The Hundreds’ Santa Monica location. Shortly after his first headlining appearance, Casey Veggies took the stage behind DJ Dyer and gave a sneak peek of his upcoming album as the rain came down on crowds eating street dogs and wearing their finest outfits.

THE HUNDREDS X NEW ERA “THIS IS RSWD” VIDEO

For the month of February, The Hundreds will be opening a RSWD pop-up shop alongside New Era, and the company took the time to ask everyone from Kreayshawn to those who frequent the store to share their favorite moments of the last five years.

Rosewood is an important part of street culture, and the many streetwear shops in the area speak volumes to its influence.
