BUCK PRODUCTION - GOODBOOKS: METAMPORPHOSIS ANIMATION

Buck is a “design-driven production company,” and one that creates absolutely beautiful works of art in the form of short films. ThinkTank Collective member Iain Acton now works with the design company, which finished this drug-trip-graphic-tirade in tribute to the late, great Hunter S. Thompson. The film is absolutely breath-taking and proves that what is capable through the medium of animation is nothing short of amazing. Not only that, but it is all for a good cause. Here is what Buck has to say:

It is not very often that we have the opportunity to create a graphic equivalent of a drug fueled rant bringing all of our collective skills to bear. And it is almost unfathomable that we could actually do something like this and benefit a good cause.

JR AND LUI BOLIN BEHIND-THE-SCENES VIDEO

Emil Horowitz takes viewers behind-the-scenes in a video recap of an art happening that should have any contemporary art follower jumping up and down just at the knowledge of its occurrence. TED-award winning photographer and world-renowned French street artist JR teams up with Chinese perspective artist and painter of immense hype Lui Bolin in this rare view into the process behind Bolin’s incredible works of art. The Chinese painter takes his subject and blends them seamlessly into their surroundings by way of screenprint ink and paints to match the background, then photographs them from a particular point of view, often making them disappear to the point that the subject is hard to find.

In a rare collaboration, JR stands before one of his more popular pieces in New York (after finishing a large series across Los Angeles County) and lets Bolin do his magic, in time disappearing into one of his own pieces much in the way many painters dive deep into their work symbolically. The end result is a beautiful teaming up of two artists from very different backgrounds inspiring those around them by doing what they do best.

ThinkTank Gallery is a blog I run much in the same format as this, voicing the narrative of the gallery of the same name in Los Angeles, CA - a gallery that I manage for my day job. Follow it for daily info on Los Angeles and art as a whole.

HIVE GALLERY 7TH ANNIVERSARY RETROSPECTIVE
The Hive Gallery in DTLA is turning 7 and they invite you to join them for a celebration in everything from tarot card reading to live performance in their gallery near the middle of town. The show is $8 at the door tomorrow, April 7th, but with nine live performances and dozens of artists putting up work in a gallery retrospective, you can expect to get your money’s worth.
A ThinkTank Collective member herself, Allison Torneros has created six brand new pieces for the show. Allison says:

The pieces are a little darker but there’s no real theme. They’re going toward a grotesque imagery kinda touched on in my solo but now I’m exploring a little bit more.

These are also her first pieces created at her new studio in the ThinkTank. We have seen the work and it’s pretty great stuff. Check out details for the show below and a full line-up on the Hive website.
