NIKE ZOOM ROOKIE “GALAXY” OFFICIAL RELEASE DATE

With the original release date slated for this coming Saturday, the Nike Zoom Rookie “Galaxy” was one of the most hyped releases for the end of 2012. While it remains so, fiends will still have to wait a couple more weeks to get the shoes, as the drop date has been pushed back to October 19th. The coveted and much-replicated Galaxy pattern covers the heel around to the toe of the shoe, with black nubuck and pods breaking it up.

At $215, the sneakers follow the recent trend of breaking the two bills cap that held sneakers to a more manageable price for the last generation, but there is little doubt that the model will still sell out.

TOM SACHS X NIKE CRAFT: SPACE CAMP

Tom Sachs is an artist whose work recognizes the process of bricolage, which involves incorporating the process of working with readily available materials and allowing the audience to see what is done with said materials. For his new exhibition, titled Space Program: Mars, Sachs teamed up with Nike to create a pair of shoes tied into this concept. The show opened on May 15th at the Park Avenue Armory in New York, and runs until June 17th. Check out more details for the show here.

NIKE ZOOM HYPERDUNK 2011 SUPREME BLAKE GRIFFIN PE

So you thought the “Galaxy” hype was over? Well not if Blake Griffin has anything to say about it. The Player Edition Nike Zoom Hyperdunk 2011 Supreme debuted on the court by Griffin in the 2012 All-Star Game proves that there are still a few ways that Nike can work its immensely hyped theme into its equally hyped models alongside the names of the NBA’s biggest players. The intergalactic upper, star-speckled midsole, and far-out logo set this pair off, which will be available shortly.

NIKE AIR FORCE 1 X FOAMPOSITE GALAXY PREVIEW
With the Nike Air Foamposite “Galaxy” release becoming a national news story due to riots, entire malls being shut down, pairs going for over $70k, and products being pulled from stores, you can’t get more hype than the current “Galaxy” phenomenon. Customizers have picked up on the craze, as well, but surely no one is wiser when it comes to stirring up fans into a cash crop than Nike themselves.
It seems that the Nike “XXX” 30th anniversary celebrations are going to hit much harder than originally anticipated with Nike’s relatively quiet release schedule up until now, as a preview of two pairs of Uptowns with a Foamposite treatment has turned up on the net. With two sources of hype as powerful as these, the shoes should definitely draw crowds. Keep an eye out for further information.

RIOTS OVER NIKE FOAMPOSITE ONE “GALAXY” RELEASE; SHOES GO FOR $70K
As predicted, the hype machine was fueled by media to the point of overreaction by police forces at the “Galaxy” release in Orlando, and what ensued was another sneaker “riot.” With shielded task forces, pepper spray, and hundreds of swarming sneakerheads, the mall last night made for quite a scene.
What authorities and retailers fail to understand on a regular basis is that sneaker fanatics want anything but problems. What they are looking for is the shoes, in the simplest and safest fashion that they can achieve them. That’s why campouts happen in the first place: because they are safe and easy.
But the Florida Mall wasn’t letting people camp out, and the result was the insanity that’s making so many headlines today. Mike Miscannon of Clash of the Customizers fame had this to say:

the people that are really to blame here are the mall security and the store themselves for their complete neglegence and utter lack of preparation for this release of shoes… I’ve been to so many releases over the last 15 years, but NEVER IN MY LIFE have I ever seen anything like tonight

There will come a day when retailers realize the hype of certain product releases and take preventative measures against the confusion caused on a consistent basis. They will realize that it is not the fans that cause these problems, but rather a lack of preparation. And with a pair of shoes that represents the All-Star game in the All-Star city, with a design that mimics the logo of the city’s team and nods toward the space program of the state, on one of the most popular shoe models out, it’s no wonder there was a ton of hype for these shoes.
The shoe release at the Florida Mall gave an “I was there” feeling to everyone hoping to cop, and with stories of the mall pulling every “galaxy”-related shoe on the premises, you can see why further stories of the shoes fetching $70,000 on eBay are emerging.

NIKE AIR FOAMPOSITE ONE “GALAXY” CAMPOUT MINI DOC

After the Concords dropped to a riotous affair, campouts for sneakers haven’t reached the same level. The media latched onto the Jordan XI “Concord” violence as a way to demonize a sub-culture a bit, and with the Foamposite “Galaxy” lines already starting as early as 10 days prior to the launch, the sentiment is one of active peace between fellow sneakerheads.

There is still an entire day until the shoe comes out, and from the campouts I have done, we all know that the last few hours are the times when bad things potentially happen. When tension runs high from someone that has waited a week only to be cut in front of at the last second by some douche and his friends, problems happen.

Let’s hope that nothing like the reported deaths from the Concord release happens this time around, and just be happy that a shoe that has already seen releases in other colorways is garnering this much excitement in streetwear communities.

NIKE BASKETBALL “GALAXY” COLLECTION SHOWDOWN
On February 24th, the much anticipated “Galaxy” pack drops from the Nike camp. After the Nike Air Foamposite One “Galaxy”s became one of the most coveted shoes in streetwear, sneakerheads are arguing over which of these three immensely popular models is the best look with the cosmic redesign.
While the Lebron 9 shoes don’t feature the interstellar print quite as predominately as the other two, all three of these sneaker designs are compelling in their own ways.
And from someone with behind the scenes access, I can tell you that the “Galaxy” print is the next trend in custom footwear hype bait. Trust me, you are going to see a lot of “Galaxy” customs in the very near future.
