NAS REVIEWS HIS ALBUM ILLMATIC

Fuse gets some great interviews from the most influential artists in their fields, and recently they sat down with Nas to discuss his game-changing album, the 1994 classic Illmatic. Just 20 upon its release, the artist firmly took hold of the rap game in the most competitive geographic location and during a time when lyricism was above all. His new album is titled Life is Good and can be picked up in stores now.

ODD FUTURE - SAM (IS DEAD) VIDEO

In the latest video from the Odd Future camp, Tyler, the Creator directs a self-inflicted massacre in a style that varies greatly from what he has done in the past. With a war movie feel, Domo Genesis and Wolf Haley spit over a dark beat as the entire Odd Future cast flees an unknown enemy in the jungle while “Sam (Is Dead)” from OF Mixtape Vol. 2 plays in the background of this short film.

AZEALIA BANKS - LIQUORICE MUSIC VIDEO

With costumes designed by Lady Gaga’s stylist Nicola Formichetti, including cowgirl chaps and an American flag and denim hybrid two piece, Azealia Banks’ new video is full of stunning visuals. Directed by Rankin, the video is full of sexy visuals and phallic objects that Banks plays with in a Wild West setting. While it may not be the critic-silencing collaboration she has promised, the flow is undeniable even if the flashiness implies a fakeness prevalent in hype hop.

TABI BONNEY FT. YASIIN BEY - CHOP CHOP

A couple weeks ago, emcee Tabi Bonney returned to the game with a Yasiin Bey-collaborated track from his free music project. The song also features Ski Beatz in one of his better appearances since “Dead Presidents,” and works well with the smooth exchange of lines between the former Mos Def and Mr. Bonney. Bonney’s project The Endless Summer dropped for free on May 17th, and you can download it now.

CHILDISH GAMBINO FT SCHOOLBOY Q - UNNECESSARY

Childish Gambino has been building plenty of hype with drop after drop from his upcoming mixtape (which still has no release date). His newest track “Unnecessary” is anything but, and features Kendrick Lamar partner-in-crime ScHoolboy Q and an ill flow. The track proves that Donald Glover is only getting better after the release of his debut studio album Camp, alongside his meteoric rise to popularity on Emmy-winning primetime television.

DANNY BROWN - JAY-DEE’S REVENGE

The visuals for “Jay-Dee’s Revenge” dropped recently, as a preview for what should be expected in the upcoming posthumous album from the late J Dilla. Jay-Dee passed in 2006 of cardiac arrest after a long period of illness, but his accomplished cult status in hip hop has assured that his fan base is still thriving. Cuts from DJ Dez and lyrics by Danny Brown finish the track off, after a long relationship of collabs between Dilla and Brown. Rebirth Of Detroit drop on June 12th, so keep a lookout for the album.

BIG FUN IN THE BIG TOWN - HIP HOP DOCUMENTARY 25 YEARS IN THE MAKING

Big Fun in the Big Town is an interesting film. When the documentary’s production started in 1986, Run-DMC was just starting to make a name for themselves LL Cool J was the new kid on the block, still living with grandma. When filming started, parts of New York City were still finding out about a fresh new artistic movement. Now, more than 25 years later, this same art form has been called dead at various junctures, and the film is finally getting an official release after decades on the shelf. Raw footage of Russell Simmons, Grandmaster Flash, Doug E. Fresh, and more shows a movement being sculpted, and Dutch documentary director superstar and hip-hop aficionado Bram Van Splunteren shot and compiled it. Find out more about the project at FiveDayWeekend, which will release in DVD/time-capsule form on May 22, but can be pre-ordered on Amazon now.

DJ EROK X SPEAK! “SIGHT & SOUND” FREESTYLE

Nicki Minaj beez in the trap, but Inside Out Boy rapper SPEAK! hits the studio with a fresh new freestyle called “Sight & Sound.” The track, presented by DJ Erok, displays the odd rapping style of the Los Angeles-based emcee who goes all out to show what a unique style with diverse subject material can produce. SPEAK! comments on his new LP which drops this Summer, Gnarly Davidson and The Marlboro Men, as well as describes the challenge of breaking through to a genre of music that doesn’t so much appreciate his appearance and oddball flow, even though his good friend Kreayshawn already got her 15 minutes.
