BIG FUN IN THE BIG TOWN - HIP HOP DOCUMENTARY 25 YEARS IN THE MAKING

Big Fun in the Big Town is an interesting film. When the documentary’s production started in 1986, Run-DMC was just starting to make a name for themselves LL Cool J was the new kid on the block, still living with grandma. When filming started, parts of New York City were still finding out about a fresh new artistic movement. Now, more than 25 years later, this same art form has been called dead at various junctures, and the film is finally getting an official release after decades on the shelf. Raw footage of Russell Simmons, Grandmaster Flash, Doug E. Fresh, and more shows a movement being sculpted, and Dutch documentary director superstar and hip-hop aficionado Bram Van Splunteren shot and compiled it. Find out more about the project at FiveDayWeekend, which will release in DVD/time-capsule form on May 22, but can be pre-ordered on Amazon now.

Trailer: Something from Nothing: The Art of Rap - Several rap icons and modern stars such as Kanye West come together to talk about the evolution and history of rap in this new flick directed by Ice-T.  Though by now some are probably tired of the “rap documentaries” that come out every couple of years, the trailer does make this one seem a little fresh and engaging.  In any case, it will hit theaters on June 15th.

CHAPTER X REEBOK ALIEN STOMPER

After Sigourney Weaver rocked a compelling outfit in the sci-fi genre redefining film Aliens, the Alien Stomper dropped from Reebok inspired by the getup and became an instant classic. With a prequel to the movie coming out soon and building an insane amount of hype from an amazing trailer, a collaboration between Japanese retailer CHAPTER and Reebok on an all-white Alien Stomper seems only fitting. The shoes are made up with a monochromatic, all-canvas upper with an ankle strap and mid-toe strap.

You can preorder them now at CHAPTER.
