DUDEBOX: INTERVIEW WITH UK ARTIST PETE FOWLER

UK artist Pete Fowler is best known for his Monsterism toys and psychedelic artwork with Welsh rock band Super Furry Animals. The designer recently invited Dudebox into his studio to check out his newest Monsterist work. The artist discusses his upcoming collaboration with Dudebox and also gives a studio tour by describing his process and inspiration. “Pete Fowler and Friends” is his new series, and the urban vinyl toys will drop in collectible shops this month.

MEET RETRO BOBBY: THE TOY COLLECTING BARBER

“Retro Bobby” may have a sweet bowl cut to match his awesome accent, but that’s not where his cartoon-character-like story ends. Bobby Agren is a retro toy and game collector that also gives pretty sweet haircuts. The barber will take your old toys for money, a trade, or a haircut. And like any true collector, he places the prices of his real treasures way above what someone would pay for them until he is done enjoying them himself.

A six-minute video produced by Copenhagers is narrated by Bobby and takes place at the Copenhagen salon called Ruben & Bobby. You will find plenty of old memories on Bobby’s shelves, and even if you don’t, it’s always inspiring to see someone who has a true passion explaining why they love it, no matter what it is.

LONDON’S FABERGÉ BIG EGG HUNT
On February 21st, the Fabergé Big Egg Hunt was launched in London, featuring 209 unique, super-sized Easter eggs with works by various artists, architects, jewelers and designers. The pieces were spread around the city, and 31 recently went to live auction, while the rest can be purchased by fans at The Big Egg Auction.
Charities Action for Children and Elephant Family will collect 100% of the proceeds, and among the 31 for live auction, Zaha Hadid‘s “Dichotomy” was a favorite. The starchitect’s work comments on organic abstraction through subtlety and fluid motion while also recognizing mechanical function in a metallic urban form.

THE POSTER SHOW 2012: LOGO DESIGN PROCESS

DKNG Studios believes that posters can make the world a better place. Here’s what they have to say about such a goal:

The Say Something Poster Project was created as a platform for generating positive message posters. Through our design competition we have sought after posters that inspire, motivate, and educate. After receiving over 150 posters through our season 2 Call-for-Entries, we are hosting our 2nd annual Poster Show featuring the Top 25 semifinalists.

During this gallery show you will have the chance to determine the Top 10 winning posters through live voting. Copies of the winning posters will be donated to our non-profit beneficiary (The Blue Hills Boys & Girls Club of Boston) to be used as tools for counseling and educational activities.

The show will go down on the coming Second Thursday Downtown LA Artwalk, on March 8th at the ThinkTank Gallery in the Fashion District. Come out and support the arts in your community and find out what they are trying to do with amazing art here.

If you can make it, be sure to RSVP.

ORIGINALFAKE X MEDICOM TOY - KAWS PARTNERS
With a price remarkably low for a bronze figure of its caliber, this collaboration between OriginalFake and Medicom Toys creates a scene reminiscent of the iconic statue of Walt Disney and his life’s work in front of Disneyland.
In classic KAWS style, his famous “Companion” gives a sense of disdain while the artist reaches forth, and provides a sense of evolution from the joy of mass appeal in pop culture. The figure will drop shortly before the “Down Time” Exhibition begins at Atlanta’s High Museum of Art.
You can pick up the PARTNERS figure starting Saturday, January 28 for ¥14,490 JPY (approximately $188 USD) at colette.
