CUSTOM NIKE MAG BY MACHE CUSTOMS
One of the ways that customizer headrunner Dan Gamache makes headlines is by altering base shoes that are deemed untouchable by many. It’s a clever and bold approach. His recent attempt at the most coveted shoe of last year - and a silhouette that is still one of the hardest to find in all of streetwear - is the Nike MAG 2011 for the Michael J. Fox fundraising auction put on by Nike and eBay. Well, Mache did what Mache does, and altered the shoe into a custom that will sit proudly in his portfolio forever more. It’s not a heavy alteration, but that’s not the point with a base this rare.
The artist has brought custom sneakers to the forefront, and recently spoke with Nicekicks on the topic in a great interview detailing a huge shift in the public reception of the art.

NIKE ZOOM ROOKIE “MATTE RED”

While we don’t have an exact release date yet, the Nike Zoom Rookie “Matte Red” has been a talking point since its first pictures were released. The shoe is a staple in sneaker collections, and this new model with a matte red covering the entire shoe save for the icy sole on the bottom should make for one of the more compelling releases of the silhouette. Despite the fact that we don’t yet have release info, you can pick up a pair now at soleawesome.

A CREATIVE LOOK INSIDE A LOUIS VUITTON GAME CASE

The Damier print from Louis Vuitton was originally inspired by a chess gameboard, and in this short film by Paris design cousin Ill Studio, the print shows its true colors. Ill Studio chose to focus on the games, destinations, and styles that Vuitton now offers, giving transition from fashion to board games as an expression of human interest and luxury. Check out the full story in LV’s online magazine New.

ADIDAS LA TRAINER
With an Olympic pack dropping from Reebok, it seems that adidas didn’t want to be left out of the festivities. Themed from a year when the Olympic games were hosted in everyone’s favorite town for celebrity fashion, the adidas LA Trainer retro 1984 release comes in three different colors, with a mesh upper and suede overlays above a rubber outsole with three subtle but eye-catching dots of color on the mid. BREAD AND BUTTER: DEE AND RICKY X PONY 2012 CAPSULE COLLECTION
As one of you described the Jordan “Spizike” release in a similar colorway last month, these shoes have an “old school, meets new school, takes a turn at preschool” feel. The colorway is sure to turn heads, unless you find yourself at a Fisher Price toy convention.
The brand is celebrating its 40th anniversary, and PONY is working with Dee & Ricky once again for Fall/Winter 2012. The collection was first spotted at Bread & Butter Berlin and is slated to release late this year.

BLACK CEMENT III GAS MASK FROM FREEHAND PROFIT

I love sneaker art. If you are following ASCK that means that you do, too. This piece is awesome and this is what the artist has to say about it:

“These Black Cement 3s are my favorite Jordan release of 2011, the Concords are great and they’ll get chopped too but that can wait. Today I’m bringing you the 15th Branding Wars mask, the first release of 2012. This should be a good year for me, if the world goes super apocalypse status people won’t ask me “Why gas masks?” anymore and if the world doesn’t end then there’s still a chance that JB will rebound in 2013 with something better than these. Eh, I’ll wait til I have a pair on but I know y’all feel me. I’m really happy with these photos I couldn’t have done it without the beautiful and talented Betsy VanDeusen. That tee I copped from the homies at 8&9 at LA SneakerCon worked out perfect.”
